Japanese or Coturnix quail are produced for both eggs and meat. They are fun and easy to raise. They require very little space, convert feed into protein efficiently, and are quite friendly. They are incubated similarly to chickens. It takes 17 days for quail eggs to hatch. They mature in 6 weeks with an average weight of 5-6oz. We feed ours gamebird starter until they are breeding age. Then feed a layer ration. Right now we are building our flock, but we will be offering extra adult birds when available, and hope to offer hatching eggs soon.
